Law of the locust. Professor Steve Simpson
Part 1 | Part 2
The locusts are coming! Locust plagues, the most infamous of insect scourges, are threatening large parts of Australia this year, and also affecting the lives of one in 10 people on the planet.
In this University of Sydney talk, part of the Sydney Science Forum series, Prof Steve Simpson, NSW Scientist of the Year last year, describes how locusts have also provided important new clues into the causes of human obesity, how we age, and the complex behaviour of crowds. He takes us on a strange journey that begins in the midst of a locust swarm and ends with the human obesity epidemic.
